Celebrating International Women's Day 2025 at Arighi Bianchi

Every year on March 8th, the world unites to honour the incredible contributions of women throughout history and acknowledge the work still needed to achieve true gender equality. International Women's Day 2025 arrives at a crucial moment, as we continue to push boundaries, break down barriers, and amplify the voices of women everywhere. It’s about celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women across the globe, from trailblazers in business and industry to everyday community heroes.

To mark this year’s celebration, we asked some of the strong women leaders in our Arighi Bianchi family team for their views on everything from the future of women in business to 2025 leadership goals. They also shared advice for aspiring women leaders in our industry, tips on how we can inspire the next generation of women, and the best piece of career advice they’ve received, as well as their own female role models.

Sarah Bianchi, CEO:

"As CEO of Arighi Bianchi, my goal for 2025 is to launch a mentoring program for men and women in the furniture industry. I firmly believe in the power of shared knowledge and experience and I'm eager to support the growth and success of professionals in this field.

"A woman who inspires me is Jo Malone, who revolutionised the world of luxury fragrance, creating unforgettable customer experiences and making high-end scents more accessible. Her iconic Jo Malone bag, complete with delicately scented tissue paper, became the ultimate gift - both to give and receive. The smell of Lime, Basil, and Mandarin still evokes happy memories for me, forever changing the way we think about fragrance. Beyond her creative genius, Jo Malone has faced both personal and business challenges with remarkable resilience. Her innovation, authenticity, and unwavering determination continue to inspire us all.

"If you haven't yet read her book Jo Malone: My Story, I highly recommend picking up a copy - you won’t be able to put it down!"

Susie Harding, Head of Finance:

“I see a future of hope, not just for women, and certainly not for the achievement of arbitrary targets, but for pure equality. That businesses simply engage whoever is best qualified to successfully undertake the role based on ability and track record.

“My female role models are numerous but to name a few – my first boss, Christine Jaeckel, who worked her way up to a senior position is a male dominated Construction firm; Ruby McGregor-Smith who became Chief Executive Officer of publicly listed Mitie Group; Abigail Herron Global Head of Health and Nature Policy at Aviva who works to transform capital markets so that they support long term sustainable development. In my experience they all share a common thread; a confidence in their own abilities but without a blinding ego, combined with a desire to work hard and continue to learn.”

Lisa Easterby, Store Manager:

"Expect setbacks as part of the journey and approach every challenge with resilience and a positive mindset. Each obstacle is an opportunity to learn, grow, and come back even stronger.

"My mother is my greatest role model. She embodies bravery, strength, and unwavering dedication, and I deeply admire her resilience and work ethic."

Keelie Stafford-Smith, Head of Accessories:

"Mentorship is such a powerful tool to inspire the next generation. A great mentor can offer valuable career guidance, boost confidence, and help expand professional networks. Role models show young women what’s possible, inspiring them to see themselves in leadership roles and proving that success is within reach.

"This International Women’s Day, I believe we must recognise the bravery & heroism of Gisele Pelicot."

Sara Hassan, Head of Marketing:

"I’m fortunate enough to have a brilliant mentor who has given me so much valuable advice over the years. The most important for me has been to “build bridges not thrones” - this focus on collaboration and partnerships is vital for any business and casting aside ego to roll up your sleeves and get the work done has always been my way of working.

"There are far too many female role models to name as I have so many brilliant women in my world, but for me it’s the women who go out of their way to lift others up and who actually make the effort to be the change."

Barbara Svégel, Front of House Manager Caffè AB:

"One of the most rewarding aspects of being a woman in leadership is the opportunity to inspire and empower others, especially the next generation of women leaders. By breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes, we pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable workplace.

"My role model is my Mum. I have always admired her kindness, strength, and support in both life and my career."

Happy International Women’s Day from us all here at Arighi Bianchi!
